Campfire Accessories For Lighting Fires
A fantastic way of always being prepared and able to light a fire in an emergency is to carry a firestick around with you. These little beauties are awesome campfire accessories that you can buy online or from just about every camping shop. They are small enough to fit on your keyring, in your glovebox, or even in your purse.

There are a few different versions of firesticks available. My favorite is the Swedish Firesteel Army. In my camping kit I have a bag of cotton balls with a jar of vaseline. When you want a fire you squeeze some vaseline into the cotton ball and hit it with some sparks from the firesteel. Instant fire.
In cold, wet and windy weather it's always fun to watch your camping buddies try to light their fires with ordinary old matches and using up a box of matches in the process.
You will get looks of amazement when you whip out the firesteel and cotton ball firestarter and get your fire started in a matter of seconds no matter what the weather. Very cool stuff.
Other methods used to light fires with a metal firestarter involve the use of a stick of magnesium. These either come with a scraper or you can use a knife.
Little bits of magnesium are trimmed off into your tinder. Once you have enough you can use a flint, which are usually included on one side of the stick, to strike a spark into the magnesium pieces and voila, instant fire.
I recommend keeping at least two methods of starting fires in your survival kit. A box of matches (waterproof) and one of these metal firestarters would be the ideal solution to starting a fire in an emergency wherever you are.
Of course don't forget the trusty magnifying glass as a source of heat for igniting some tinder. The only downside is you need to have the sun shining. A magnifying glass has other uses such as removing splinters so it's good to have one in your kit anyway.
Campfire Accessories For Cooking
Your cooking equipment for the outdoors needs to be a little bit tougher than the usual stuff found in your kitchen. Cooking over a fire needs to be done at a distance for starters.
Pots and pans for the campfire need handles on them so you can hook them to put them on the fire and take them off the fire.
This feat can always be achieved with a stick but you have to find a new one every time and sometimes they just aren't strong enough or long enough. Enter the campfire poker.
The campfire poker is probably one of the most useful campfire accessories known to man. A good cast iron poker will last generations.
You can use it to carry your heavy pots around, lift lids to check on the progress of your meal or you can use it to stoke the fire to get a bit more heat from it thus saving your boots and face from a severe scorching (yes some people like to get down and actually blow on the fire).
