Create Your Own Water Purifier Systems For Survival

Outdoor survival skills are extremely important if you should become lost or stranded out in the wilderness. Finding water is a skill in itself but then you still need to make it safe for human consumption. It is important to learn how to filter water if you are stuck without your trusty camp water purifer.

Filtering water is not the same as purifying water but nevertheless it is an important skill that could save your life.

water purifier systemsWhen the best water available is muddy water, you will need a filter to clean it. To filter water means that all visible debris and particles are removed making it safer to drink. Harmful bacteria and microbes will still exist in the water but the filtering process will make it taste a little better.

Firstly you will need some sort of container. A bottle will work well. Cut the bottom of the bottle off will enable you to use the top as a funnel. By stuffing some cloth material into the funnel you will be able to trap particles in the water. If you don't have a bottle a can will also suffice. Poke several holes in the bottom of the can with your pocket knife for best results. Catch the water in a seperate container by running it through the holes in the can.

This is not the only means to filter water in the wilderness. If you don't have a bottle or a can here is another option for you to consider during an emergency. Put a piece of clothing or cloth material directly over the container as a filter. You should be able to get rid of some particles with this method.

You can also use what nature provides. If you have rocks and sand, alternate these in layers to make a filter. Create as many layers as you can for best results.

Bark made into the shape of a cone can be used in place of bottles and cans. Rocks and sand can be layered inside the bark cone. To hold it all together use a piece of string at the bottom of the cone. By thinking ahead and putting small rocks at the bottom you will be able to stop it from all falling apart.

Fine and coarse layers need to be alternated inside the filter. At the bottom of the cone, you will need to stop the sand from pouring through. This is pretty easy. Use a non-poisoinous grass, small pebbles or some cotton material.

When you have finished building your filter you now need to pour your collected water into it. As the water starts coming out of the filter collect it in your container. If the water is not clear, pass it through the filter again. Repeat until the water runs clear.

Again, it is important to know that just because the water is clear, does not make the water completely safe to drink. The water still needs to be purified, either with a portable camping water purifier, water purification tablets or through boiling for five minutes over a fire.

Learning how to filter water in the wilderness without a camping water purifier is an essential outdoor survival skill. If you can keep yourself alive by staying hydrated you have a better chance of survival while you wait for help to arrive. Practice this valuable skill before you actually need it. It's a simple skill that is literally a life saver.
